RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces

This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to enter and work in confined spaces in the resources and infrastructure industries. This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles undertaking work in confined spaces.

On successful completion of this program, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge:

  • Plan and prepare for working in a confined space;
  • Emergency response procedures;
  • Work in a confined space safely;
  • Communication techniques;
  • Complete an entry permit;
  • Exit a confined space correctly and safely;
  • Close down and clean area.

Pre-requisites for unit
Minimum Age: 16
You must show photo identification (ie. driver’s licence) upon enrolment and bring the same ID on the day of the course to be sighted by the trainer.
Students need to wear long pants, long shirt and enclosed shoes to the course.

Confined Space Certificates are valid for 5 years.

Pre-requisites for Refresher
There is no legislative requirement for refresher training for any units of competency. It is suggested that refresher training for Enter and work in confined spaces should be conducted every 3 years. This refresher is at the discretion of the employer.

This training is delivered by Community College Northern Inland Inc. RTO 90027. On successful completion of the training program, the nationally recognised Statement of Attainment RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces will be issued to students assessed as competent by Community College Northern Inland.

Assessments are made against units of competency.
