Excel can be used to manage finances and business data, display and interpret information, use relative and absolute references and more. Learn how to get the most out of your data with Microsoft Excel in this short format course designed for people who have basic day-to-day computer skills who want to learn techniques and functions of the software.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use, select, and use software and organise electronic information and data.

Introduction to MS Excel (CSO202023)

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet application that is used for storing, organising, and manipulating different types of data - financial data, customer data, and product data to name a few. People use Excel to manage their budget and spending, perform financial calculations, and generate charts and reports for presentations.
In this session, students will learn:

  • how to enter data into a spreadsheet;
  • how to format a spreadsheet;
  • how to apply simple and complex formulas and functions to achieve desired results
  • how to freeze panes to access data in large spreadsheets;
  • how to create charts and graphs from data entered into a spreadsheet.

Assessments are made against units of competency from the Certificate II in Workplace Skills BSB20120.
