Woodworking for Beginners

Woodworking for Beginners

If you’re a maker at heart, and ready to learn new skills to supplement your income or for work or pleasure then this practical skills-based course could be just the thing for you.

Woodworking for Beginners offers a change of pace from traditional study. Get a hands-on introduction to the woodworking skills that are used in home-based enterprises, around the home or farm that you’ll be able to put into practice right away. Cottage industries are rising in popularity as they present exciting work-from-home options for older workers and those who’ve been displaced or suffered a loss of working hours.

During this six week course you’ll learn about the two main areas of woodworking: basic construction and tool handling. You’ll use a variety of hand and power tools while you learn traditional woodworking techniques and terminology. Learn about safety for yourself and others as you build your first project—a classic box you can take home and decorate as you choose and use for storage. You’ll be guided through your project every step of the way by an experienced trainer (and long-time maker).

This course is all about the basics—a good place to start your woodworking adventure. We’ll provide a great environment for you to learn new skills while you work on your take home project. Whether you’re making to use, making to give, making for fun, or making change, you can become part of the maker movement by enrolling now.

A materials fee is included in the course cost which is fully subsidised for eligible students. Classes run over six weeks and will be small to ensure participants receive one-on-one instruction at every lesson.
